What are the key transport problems for Cambridge? That was the core question we put to the Community Reference Group, who came together three times during our public engagement period, between 27 September - 29 October 2025. This reflected the questions we asked the broader community about the kind of town we want for the future, and the problems we need to solve to get there.

Here’s what they said:

In the latest meeting, on Thursday, October 30 2025, the group examined the community responses from 254 pieces of feedback, and discussed the possible root causes behind our biggest transport concerns. Some of the broad themes they covered included:

  • growth and traffic resilience – especially on bridges
  • accessibility – with more safe transport options needed for all ages, stages and abilities
  • lack of amenities in Leamington.

Why did we focus on problems?

We must define the core problems in order to come up with the best solutions.

The goal of Cambridge Connections is to build a business case to go to the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), so we can seek funding for the next 30 years. In this first stage of the business case, the NZTA requires us to identify the key problems we're facing, and how solutions will benefit the community. We’re committed to hearing from the community at every stage of the project.
