The Community Reference Group met for the first time on Tuesday, September 23, after being selected from an impressive 52 applications. Members were chosen to represent the breadth of the Cambridge community, with a wide mix of expertise, viewpoints, ages and life stages.

Community Reference Group Members are: Alan Garvin, Chris Flatt, David Cooney, Gabby Byrne, Graham Scott, Ian Wilson, Kelly Bouzaid, Kellie Pearson, Ngawai Hamblin, Peter Carr, Peter Pickett, Phil MacKay, Poto Davies, Sharon Cresswell and Andrew Myers.

Andrew Myers was appointed to represent the Cambridge Community Board, which will act as a ‘bridge’ between the Reference Group and Council.

The emphasis on the first meeting was whanaungatanga (relationships) and setting the scope. Over the next month, the group will discuss the kind of town and district they want for future generations, identify challenges and consider what will bring the greatest transport benefits to meet community aspirations.

Along with the Ideas Forum, they will help inform decisions made by Elected Members at key stages in the development of the transport plan.

The group will work closely with the Cambridge Community Board and Waipā District Council, to inform priorities, consider challenges and find solutions together.
