The new plant will align with the Waikato River Authority’s Te Ture Whaimana o te Awa o Waikato, the Vision and Strategy for the Waikato River, and with the Waikato-Tainui’s Environmental Plan - Tai Tumu Tai Pari Tai Ao.

It will also comply fully with Waikato Regional plans and any conditions laid down by the Waikato Regional Council while also considering matters of importance to tāngata whenua.

  • Waikato River Authority

    The purpose of the Waikato River Authority is to:

    • Set the primary direction to achieve the restoration and protection of the health and wellbeing of the Waikato River for future generations
    • Promote an integrated, holistic, and co-ordinated approach to the implementation of the Vision and Strategy and the management of the Waikato River
    • Fund rehabilitation initiatives for the Waikato River in its role as trustee for the Waikato River Clean-up Trust.
  • Waikato-Tainui

    Tai Tumu Tai Pari Tai Ao is intended as a tool to provide clear high-level guidance on Waikato-Tainui objectives and policies with respect to the environment to resource managers, users and activity operators, and those regulating such activities, within the Waikato-Tainui rohe.
